General Requirements:
This position requires a motivated, decisive individual with the ability to work within schedule constraints with minimal supervision in the office as well as while traveling. The ideal employee can work well in project teams and can communicate technically with other team members and explain technical information and concepts to our customers. In addition, the following traits are desired:
  • Technical knowledge including formal training at an accredited college or university.
  • Used to taking “ownership” of the work assigned and make decisions.
  • Must be disciplined and deadline oriented.
  • Able to manage priorities and work independently.
  • Able to manage several sales projects and work in a fast-paced environment with tight schedules and deadlines is a must.
  • Able to work collaboratively with employees of all levels within the organization.
  • Available to travel domestically and internationally, when required.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team-based environment is a necessity.
  • Must have the ability to move freely through a steel plant (may be required to scale flights of stairs and step over curbing).

Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Review the requirements of the customer (RFQ) to determine the most effective solution related to the company portion of the project to achieve the end user’s objectives
  • Work with the team in the development of the service activity.
  • Work with the team to develop the technical documentation (technical specification, layout, P&ID’s, scope of supply, motor list) associated with the solution proposed.
  • Participate in technical meetings to present the proposals to our customers.
  • Make the changes to the document set or communicate the necessary revisions to the sales support team.
  • Review and sign the final document set with the end user.
  • Provide knowledge, experience and expertise related to the design and operation of pickling and degreasing systems.
  • Provide ideas and guidance to improve the design and performance of chemical processes.
  • Provide contacts with potential equipment sub suppliers
  • Provide information on the activities of competitors through personal contacts and relationships
  • Help to trouble shoot process problems that arise during commissioning
  • Scheduling and performing prospection trips to identify new projects
  • Analyze the market and prospect for sales opportunities.
  • Respond to customer requests for sales calls.
  • For large jobs:
    • Work with head office as a team member.
    • Initial contacts with customer.
    • Attend meeting to present Technical proposal during early stages of the sales phase.
    • Prepare Technical Specifications.
    • Prepare issue and follow Request for Quotation during the proposal phase.
    • Collaborate with the team to close the deal.
  • Keep contact with existing customers through regular visits.
  • Participate in conferences, Technical Committees, Internal Seminars and others.
  • Prepare or modify technical presentations for specific meeting needs. Public presentations.
  • Support head office sales efforts preparing trip and accompanying head office sales team during sales visits.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Technical Sales ideally serving customers in the steel industry.
  • Proficiency in PC utilizing MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and MS Project.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoDesk AutoCAD and Inventor is a plus.
  • Experience with industrial process equipment


50% Travel required typically for a week at a time to customer offices or production locations, company’s production locations, etc...
